You should start shopping for wedding dresses shortly after you choose your date, providing that date is a least a year away. You should definetely order the dress at least six months in advance to make sure you have enough time for alterations, some will tell you nine months in advance. Some bridal stores have a five month lead time on their wedding dresses not including alterations. Always remember that even if you are shopping off the rack your wedding dress might still need to be altered, so the earlier the better.
